The Rockford Area Historical Society will host a woodcarving expo and demonstration on Saturday, July 10 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Woodcarvers from the Metro Woodcarvers Association, representing a number of different artistic styles and techniques, will gather at the Ames-Florida-Stork House to showcase their trade. Artisans will have items for sale at the event and look forward to answering questions from visitors about woodworking and finishing.
After viewing the demonstration, children attending this event can search for a variety of wood and hand carved objects throughout the Stork House on a scavenger hunt. Other displays throughout the house will focus on tools, woodwork, and carving as a trade. Docents will be on hand to answer questions and give tours to guests.
Light refreshments will be served during the event and visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch to eat on the grounds while enjoying the gardens.
The Ames-Florida-Stork House is a nonprofit organization open for tours every Tuesday and Wednesday from 10-4 p.m. and Thursdays from 11-7 p.m. Special programs are held on the second Saturday of each month.
