Montrose, Waverly have rash of car break-ins

MONTROSE, WAVERLY, MN – There have been a rash of car break-ins in Montrose and Waverly recently, Wright County Sheriff Department Patrol Officer Kevin Triplett told the Waverly City Council at the meeting Tuesday.
“It’s been a busy couple of weeks here,” Triplett said.
Although Triplett wasn’t able to provide exact numbers, he estimated that in Montrose,  about 30 to 40 break-ins have been reported. In Waverly, he said there have been “maybe a dozen, if that.”
Most, if not all, of the break-ins have been in unlocked cars, he said.
“This is a reminder to everybody – lock your car doors,” he said. “That would take care of almost all of it, I think.”
Change and CDs were the most common items stolen. Triplett said the department believes the break-ins are being done by kids ages 10 to 14.
“We’ve been working on getting suspects,” he said. “We don’t know what time they’re doing it.”
In Waverly, most of the break-ins have occurred on 62nd Street, Frankfort Way, First Street South, and Second Street South.
“In Montrose, it’s all over,” Triplett said.
To report information about the vehicle break-ins, call the Wright County Law Enforcement Center at (763) 682-1162.
