Man charged with murder in Watertown overdose death


WATERTOWN, MN – Carver County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a medical call involving an unresponsive adult female on the 200 block of Westminster Ave. NW in Watertown March 23 at about 5:55 p.m., according to a release from Carver County Sheriff Jim Olson.
Deputies arrived to find Olivia Rose Zorbas, 19, deceased.
Deputies immediately noted evidence of recent intravenous drug use and suspected Zorbas had overdosed on controlled substances.
Deputies obtained a search warrant for the premises to look for evidence of the manner of death. They recovered an uncapped syringe, packing material consistent with drug packaging, and a makeshift tourniquet. Deputies also discovered a white powder which tested positive as fentanyl, a controlled substance, using a field test kit.
Through further investigation, deputies learned the identity of the suspect believed to have sold Zorbas the controlled substance(s).
March 26, deputies located and arrested the suspect, Deon Lee Hillard, 29, of Minneapolis. Hillard has subsequently been charged with third-degree murder and remains in the Carver County Jail.
Zorbas was transported to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office, where an autopsy will be performed.
Ridgeview Ambulance Service and Watertown Fire department assisted the sheriff’s office in responding to this call.
The matter remains under investigation.
