Local elections to include contested races

The filing period for the Nov. 8 general election closed Tuesday.
Here is a look at who filed for local positions based on a review of the Secretary of State’s election and voting website.
Two seats on Delano’s City Council are up for election. Incumbent Delano City Councilmember Jason Franzen is running for re-election and will be joined on the ballot by Peter Froehle and Becky Schaust.
Delano City Councilmember Holly Schrupp is running for Mayor and will run against Larry Bartels. Incumbent Mayor Dale Graunke did not file for re-election.
Four seats open on the Delano School Board are up for election. Incumbents Corey Black, Rachel Depa, and Jennie Rosenow are running for re-election and will be challenged by Sarah Baker, Richard Paskach, Steve Rogers, and Ryan Schaust. Incumbent Lisa Seguin did not file for re-election.
Loretto Mayor Kent Koch is running unopposed. Incumbent Councilmembers Brenda Daniels and Ben Scanlon will also run unopposed for the city’s two councilmember positions. Incumbent Damon Canaday did not file for re-election.
In Montrose, four candidates will be running for two open seats on the city council. Incumbent David Paradeise will seek re-election against former Mayor Michelle Otto, Andrew Rasmussen, and Tami Surprenant. Incumbent Tom Marsalek did not file for re-election.
Maple Plain incumbent city councilmember Connie Francis and Andrew Burak are running unopposed for two vacant seats on the city council. Incumbent Caitlin Cahill did not file for re-election.
Candidates in contested races will be featured in voters guides in future editions of the Delano Herald Journal.
