Motorists will encounter delays and a detour when Highway 12 closes in both directions between Hennepin County Road 90 and Hennepin County Road 83 at 6 a.m., Sept. 9. The roadway will reopen in mid-October.
Detour route: County Road 90 to County Road 6 to the new Highway 12 bypass in Long Lake.
To accommodate additional traffic during the closure, three temporary signals have been installed at the following intersections:
- County Road 90 and County Road 6
- County Road 83 and County Road 6
- County Road 19 and County Road 6
This closure is required as crews construct a temporary railroad embankment, relocate utilities along Highway 12 and construct a box culvert across Highway 12. This work is in preparation for the removal and reconstruction of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad Bridge next summer.
Access to the city of Maple Plain and the Maple Plain Central Business District and Industrial Parks will remain open throughout the project. Access into the community for eastbound travelers is County Road 83 or County Road 19. Commuters heading west should remain on Highway 12.
Mn/DOT reminds motorists to slow down in work zones and never enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones. For statewide traffic, construction and travel information dial 5-1-1 or visit www.511mn.org.
