Third annual Relay for Life garage sale Saturday in Montrose

MONTROSE, MN - A special garage sale to benefit the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life will be Saturday in Montrose, according to KRWC 1360AM Radio. The Montrose Community Center will host the event this Saturday, May 19 from 8 AM to 4 PM. Numerous types of garage sale items will be on sale, including exercise equipment, clothing, and household items. Road work taking place on I-94 near Albertville

Beginning between 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. this evening, Wednesday, April 16, Interstate 94 traffic will be reduced to one lane in both directions. Evening lane restrictions are expected through May 22. All travel lanes will be opened during daytime and peak traffic hours.

The work is part of the city of Albertville westbound collector-distributor road project that will allow westbound I-94 traffic to access County Road 19. Construction will be ongoing through December, 2012.

Motorists are urged to slow down, pay attention and watch for workers while traveling in the construction zone.

Delano local board of appeal and equalization tonight at 6 p.m.

DELANO, MN - Delano’s local board of appeal and equalization will take place tonight (Tuesday) at 6 p.m. at the Delano City Hall. This is a time to discuss assessed property values with local officials. Following the board of appeal and equalization, the regular city council meeting will take place, with a number of items on the agenda. The council will recognize the retirement and years of service of Mark Alger and Phil Carlberg to the Delano Fire Department. Other agenda items include consideration of an amendment to the lawn mowing agreement between the City of Delano and West Metro Property Services, approval of three seasonal employees for public works, a financial report and liquor store income statement, and the hiring of part-time staff at Delano Municipal Wine and Spirits. Other agenda items include discussion about striping for parallel parking on Wright County Road 17/River Street, the 2012 comprehensive plan updates, and also the installation of a retaining wall along County Road 17 under the downtown railroad trestle. Wright County Board to discuss law enforcement awards, other items

WRIGHT COUNTY, MN – Wright County Board will hear a presentation of awards to local law enforcement officers during Tuesday’s meeting.

Other items on the agenda include a resolution proclaiming May 13-19 Wright County Law Enforcement Officers week, a presentation by Craig Hayes, purchasing agent, regarding quotes to expand the emergency operations center, a bid opening for the CSAH 3 reconstruction project, a discussion of bond refinancing, a presentation by George Gmach of Trusight regarding a recent classification study, and other items.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. at the Wright County Government Center in Buffalo.

Delano Jaycees’ annual sandbox fill coming up May 19

DELANO, MN - The Delano Jaycees’ annual sandbox fill will take place Saturday, May 19. If interested in obtaining sand from the Jaycees, call Meyer Chiropractic at (763) 972-9355 and leave your name, address, and how many wheel barrows of sand requested. Each barrow will cost $5 and additional donations will also be accepted. All proceeds made go back into the Delano community. Sand for this project is donated by Cemstone of Delano. FUNERAL NOTICE: AW “Bill” Hammerlund, 79, Independence

Albert William Hammerlund, “Bill” age 79 of Independence went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, May 8, 2012. He was born April 19, 1933 to Albert and Eleanor (Sawyer) Hammerlund in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Bill was the owner of Hammerlund Manufacturing located in Hopkins, Minnesota for 60 years (53+ years in the same location). He was active in the American Saddlebred Association as an Owner/Shower/Breeder for over 50 years. He was a graduate of St. Louis Park High School and Gustavus Adolphus where he was active in football, wrestling, hockey and softball. Bill was active in coaching his sons and grandsons teams over the years. He was born again in Jesus in 1968, wonderfully changing his life forever.

Bill was preceded in death by his son Aaron; his parents Albert and Eleanor Hammerlund, siblings Robert Hammerlund, Kenneth Hammerlund, Pat Adickes and Beth Farniok. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Linn; children Lauren Hammerlund, Matthew Hammerlund, Anne Thommes, and Christina Wagner; 9 grandchildren: Mason, Madeleine and Miles Hammerlund, Ashlinn, Caleb and Sawyer Thommes, Jordan, Aaron and Sunday Wagner; brother George (Harriet) Hammerlund; as well many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Delano Evangelical Free Church. Gathering of family and friends will occur for 1 hour prior to services in the church on Sunday. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.

Movie under the stars moved to Saturday night due to weather

DELANO, MN - Delano Destination ImagiNation (DI) is hosting a movie under the stars Saturday, May 12 at 8:30 p.m. outside of the Delano High School. This is a rescheduled date from Friday due to weather.
The family-friendly movie “Despicable Me” (rated PG) will be played. In case of rain, the reschedule date will be Saturday, May 12 at 8:30 p.m. Seating will be between the tennis court and the football field. Feel free to bring blankets or lawn chairs. Entrance is $5 per person, or $15/family max. Concessions will be available.

Montrose-Waverly fair Saturday, May 12

MONTROSE, WAVERLY, MN – Celebrate spring with a relaxing day at the Montrose-Waverly Craft and Community Fair Saturday, May 12 at Railroad Park and Village Hall in Waverly.
It’s the perfect place to listen to live music, shop for one-of-a-kind artwork, savor delicious treats, and socialize with friends and family.
“We have a little bit of everything,” said Montrose-Waverly Chamber of Commerce President Melissa Morris. “It is a fun event. Everybody had a wonderful time last year.”
The free-admission fair goes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with live music starting at 9:30 a.m.
Like last year, the fair coincides with the citywide garage sale day.
One 2012 highlight is the lineup of musicians, which includes Byron Sheppard, Jim Kirkendahl, Becca Bloch, Randy Norby, Jon Finley, David Hooten, and Montrose siblings Andrew and Calista Jacobson.
“The musicians are extremely talented,” Morris said.
While people listen to music, they are welcome to browse a wide selection of arts and crafts items such as purses, jewelry, household items, unique décor, and much more. They will also have an opportunity to chat with local business representatives.
A flavorful day
Food will be another fun attraction at this year’s fair.
“We’ll have everything from fried cheese curds to build-your-own burgers to cotton candy to homemade ice cream,” Morris said.
A pie-eating contest – with prizes – will start at 1 p.m., with both a child and adult competition. Children can also play in inflatable bounce houses.
Wild water games
Fire department water games will also provide entertainment. For the competition, area fire departments use the water spray from their hoses to keep a large ball in the air.
