Lynn Betts, an incumbent, and Brad Spencer, a newcomer to the city council, will serve four-year terms on the Independence City Council beginning January 2010. Spencer received the most votes with 696, Betts received 632, and challengers Lance Gyllenblad, an incumbent council member, received 359, and challenger Chris Stephan received 303 votes. Of Independence’s 2,423 registered voters, 1,033 voted and 29 new voters registered today at the polls.
