DELANO, MN — The Delano Senior Center is closed until further notice due to the COVID-19 virus.
Friday, the Minnesota Department of Health recommended that event organizers limit attendance to no more than 10 people for events where the majority of participants are at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19, including senior citizens.
“Following this recommendation, the City of Delano is closing Delano Senior Center and canceling all senior center programs and activities until further notice,” according to a post on the city’s official Facebook page.
In the absence of the congregate meal program, if seniors need food assistance, they should call the center at 763-972-0574 or email firstname.lastname@example.org and staff will respond to those inquiries.
“Thank you for your understanding as we try to protect the health of our residents, program participants, and staff, while monitoring the evolving situation,” the post reads in part.
More information on how COVID-19 is affecting city facilities and policy will appear in the March 20 edition of the Delano Herald Journal.
