Delano Public Schools is officially “Open for Business” for the 2009-10 school year.
From Delano Public School superintendent Dr. John Sweet
The news media is full of information about President Obama’s address to the school children of the nation on September 8 at 11:00a at www.whitehouse.gov and also C-Span television. Our position on this is that teachers can decide if they want to use this message in their class. Parents who object to their children hearing the message may notify the school their child attends and if that class is viewing the message, the student will be excused from that portion of the class to another setting.
The H1N1 flu is still with us this school year. The advice that we are following is if a student or staff member has a temperature of 100 degrees or greater accompanied by a sore throat or cough, they should stay home until 24 hours after those symptoms are resolved. We also advise that good hand washing and cough etiquette are good preventative measures.
We will open the school year with an all time high enrollment of over 2300 students. This will be an increase of more than 50 students K-12 over last year.
Again, I encourage school patrons to subscribe to my blog at http://suptslog.blogspot.com/ to stay current on school affairs.
