Delano Public Schools addresses the swine flu

As you likely are aware, human cases of swine flu (now being called H1N1 Novel Influenza) that
began in Mexico are now spreading world wide including the United States. Each day brings new
information about the virus. The good news is Antiviral medications are available for treatment.
Our school district is monitoring the recent events and the health of our students. We are also in
contact with Wright County Public Health, Minnesota Department of Health and the Minnesota
Department of Education.
As with any infectious disease, we ask that you immediately notify the school if your child is ill.
Good health habits can stop the spread of germs and prevent illnesses. Public Health
recommends:
1. Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
2. Stay home from school, work and events when you are sick.
3. Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.
4. Clean your hands often!
5. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
6. Practice other good health habits such as getting plenty of sleep, be physically active,
manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.
If members of your family come down with flu-like symptoms (fever, sore throat, cough,
tiredness, muscle-aches and sometimes vomiting and diarrhea-mainly in children) please call your
medical clinic. More information is available on the Minnesota Department of Health’s website
at www.health.state.mn.us or the Center for Disease Prevention & Control at www.cdc.gov.
This is a rapidly evolving situation. We will stay in touch with our public health agency and we
will alert you if there is any concern within the Delano Public Schools.
