Delano man dies in rappelling accident in Utah

MOAB, UT — A Delano man died Monday after falling about 60 feet while rappelling down a cliff in Utah, and his body was recovered Tuesday, according to the Moab Sun News.

Scott Henning, 33, had hiked with a friend to the area above Moonflower Canyon Monday and encountered a problem with the rope while rappelling down the cliff.

After the accident was called into the sheriff’s office at 6:27 p.m., Grand County Search and Rescue and Grand County Emergency Management Services responded to the area, but the terrain made access difficult, requiring EMS personnel to be flown in by a helicopter according to the Moab Sun News. Tuesday, the Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter assisted with recovering Henning’s body, which was transported to the medical examiner’s office in Taylorsville, according to the newspaper.
