Fire damages Watertown mobile home

Fire crews from 3 area communities battled not only flames, but also hot, humid conditions Saturday when they were called to a fire at a mobile home in Watertown, according to KRWC 1360 AM Radio.

Carver County Sheriff Bud Olson reports that the Watertown Fire Department was called to the home at the Riverside Terrace Park in Watertown just after 1 o’clock Saturday. He says the owner of the home placed the 9-1-1 call stating that she smelled smoke, and after investigating, found that her dryer was on fire. When firefighters arrived, they reportedly found that the fire had spread to the wall of the residence. The fire was contained, but there was substantial damage done to the residence. No injuries were reported. Fire crews from Mayer and Delano were called to assist in battling the blaze, and Sheriff Olson says despite some very warm and humid conditions, no firefighters sustained injury related to the heat.

Woodcarving event in Rockford Saturday

The Rockford Area Historical Society will host a woodcarving expo and demonstration on Saturday, July 10 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Woodcarvers from the Metro Woodcarvers Association, representing a number of different artistic styles and techniques, will gather at the Ames-Florida-Stork House to showcase their trade. Other displays throughout the house will focus on tools, woodwork, and carving as a trade. Docents will be on hand to answer questions and give tours to guests.

Light refreshments will be served during the event and visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch to eat on the grounds while enjoying the gardens.
