DELANO, MN — The Bend in the River Big Band will be the featured performing group at 6:30 pm Wednesday, July 11, for the General Federated Women’s Club of Delano Concert in the Park series; however, the concert will be hosted at Delano City Hall/Delano Senior Center due to the forecast high temperatures/heat index. The program is free.
Organizers say they are excited to kick off the summer concerts by bringing back a crowd favorite - Bend in the River Big Band. An 18-piece big band featuring vocalist Linnea Nelson Marrin and comprised mostly of graduates of Gustavus Adolphus College, Bend in the River performs a wide variety of music from the big band era to contemporary jazz/rock.
Under the direction of Robert Hallquist, the band has performed at the Twin Cities Hot Summer Jazz Festival, Jazz on The Prairie Big Band Festival. KBEM Winter JazzFest, Bloomington Jazz Festival, “Swing Night” at The Wabasha Street Caves, and numerous other events. They have released three albums.
The concerts are sponsored by the General Federated Women’s Club of Delano, Delano Community Education, and the City of Delano. This activity is made possible in part by a grant from the Central MN Arts Board with funds appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature from its general fund.
