Bake sale in Delano to benefit soldiers Sunday, March 14

Anyone with a sweet tooth and a soft heart might want to stop by the Delano American Legion Sunday, March 14 any time between 8:30 a.m. and noon.
The Delano Operation Minnesota Nice (OMN) is planning a special bake sale to help deployed US soldiers.
People will have the opportunity to purchase delicious treats and can also attend the American Legion breakfast, which will be going on at the same time.
The Delano OMN meets the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Delano American Legion to pack boxes for soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan who do not receive mail. The organization started four years ago, and it continues to grow.
The bake sale will help raise money to defray shipping costs and allow the group to sponsor additional deployed soldiers.
It is not necessary to support the war in order to help OMN. The organization does not take a position on where or why the troops are deployed.
According to the group’s mission statement, “We are simply here to offer a reminder that they are our heroes.”
Many soldiers do not receive mail from home, and the packages they receive from OMN are greatly appreciated. The OMN web site, www.operation minnesotanice.com, shows photos and comments from soldiers who have received care packages.
The web site also includes a complete list of local business supporters. New volunteers, as well as donations of any kind, are always welcome.
To become an individual or business supporter, contact Darlene Hayes at (763) 972-2956 or Ann Reese at (763) 972-1299. E-mail messages can be sent to info@operationminnesotanice.com.
