DELANO, MN - The Delano Jaycees’ annual sandbox fill will take place Saturday, May 19. If interested in obtaining sand from the Jaycees, call Meyer Chiropractic at (763) 972-9355 and leave your name, address, and how many wheel barrows of sand requested. Each barrow will cost $5 and additional donations will also be accepted. All proceeds made go back into the Delano community. Sand for this project is donated by Cemstone of Delano. Joel Frederick Bulthuis was born June 28, 1960 to Richard and Helen Bulthuis at Clara City, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Bunde Christian Reform Church. Joel attended school in Clara City and graduated in 1978. He then went to St. Cloud Vo-Tech. Joel was united in marriage to Tamara Grussing on August 19, 1989 at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City, Minnesota. They were blessed with three children, Anna, Alex and Alaina all at home.
Joel is survived by his wife Tamara; children Anna, Alex and Alaina of Delano, Minnesota, mother Helen Goertzen of Hutchinson, Minnesota, brother Ronald (Mary) Bulthuis of Rice, Minnesota, sisters Brenda (Dennis) Dummer of Hutchinson, Minnesota, Peggy (Mike) Slaghter of Lynchburg, Virginia, Pat (Jim) Philipske of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, Debbie (Gene) Wales of Maple Grove, MN, and Joy (Eric) Halstrom of Peoria, Arizona. Also surviving are several aunts and one uncle, many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his father Richard Bulthuis and mother-in-law Lavonne Grussing.
Joel enjoyed spending time with his family, family vacations, working outside on his yard and in the garden. Joel was quite a handyman, woodworker, perfectionist and great at everything he touched. He will be deeply missed. Joel passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at the Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 4, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City, Minnesota. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Iten Funeral Home in Delano, Minnesota with a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue on Friday one hour prior to services in the church. Interment will be in the Bunde Christian Reformed Church Cemetery in Bunde, Minnesota.
DELANO, MN - The Delano farmers market will open for the season Wednesday, May 2, and continue to be open Wednesdays from 2 to 6 p.m. through Oct. 31. DELANO, MN - Delano Municipal Utilities crews will be flushing water hydrants in Delano through Wednesday, May 2. A drop in water pressure may take place during this time. It is temporary, and will return to normal in a short period of time. The flushing procedure may also knock loose rust sediments in the water lines. For more information, call (763) 972-0557.

Applications and additional information is at the City Website http://www.delano.mn.us/community/recreation/community-garden Anyone one interested in having their own garden plot in the Community garden is encouraged to contact the Delano City Hall at (763) 972-0550 or visit the web site for application, rules and release forms, or visit city hall. The committee will be seeking site preparation help from individuals, businesses, and area civic groups. Individuals, businesses, or civic groups willing to help with the preparation of the garden site are asked to contact Jan Johnson at jannixa@frontiernet.net. The work day is scheduled for May 18.
Darla Kay (Dahl) Juday, age 55, of Delano, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, April 25, 2012.
Darla’s foremost dedication in life was to be the best of mothers to her children and she will undoubtedly continue to watch over them.
Darla and Patrick successfully developed their own business, while maintaining a small hobby farm at their Delano home.
She was also an avid community volunteer with a particular interest in serving the homebound elderly.
Darla loved animals and particularly horses. She devoted much of her time to assisting friends and neighbors with the care of their livestock. Darla’s was a model of resilience and her infectious spunk will be sorely missed by all who love her.
Darla is survived by her beloved fiancé, Patrick Eichens, and her cherished children, Jeremiah Juday, Rosella (Stephen) Froehle, Toniah (Ryan) Ofsthun, Kristin (Andrew Thomas) Juday, Adam Juday and Maria Juday.
She is also survived by brothers David, Kenneth, John, James, sister Lisa, and many loving uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by parents Irvin and Rosella Dahl, and brother Thomas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Wednesday, May 2 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of St. Mary in Waverly.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services Wednesday in the St. Mary’s Parish Center. Interment at the church cemetery.
Arrangements were by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
