Five Buffalo seniors can’t take part in graduation

BUFFALO, MN — Five Buffalo High School seniors have been told they won’t be allowed to walk during commencement exercises today (Friday), according to WCCO.

The young men climbed on the school roof Monday night and hung a sign, some orange mesh fencing and a few pink flamingos. The sign read, “Seniors 2010.”

The students were suspended Tuesday. One of the students was supposed to compete in the state track meet Friday. He won’t be allowed to take part.

Carver Co. deputy charged with felony drug possession

danCARVER COUNTY, MN – A Carver County deputy is facing felony drug charges after being detected by surveillance taking meth from the sheriff’s evidence vault in Chaska May 22.

Daniel David Kahlow, 47, was detained and has been charged with two counts of second degree possession of meth, according to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
The BCA met with the Carver County sheriff regarding a breach in the vault security in May on Mother’s Day, when videotape of what looked like Kahlow gaining access to the area.

Sheriff Bud Olson indicated that no one should have been in the vault at that time.  Soon after, BCA agents detained Kahlow, who admitted to taking meth on previous occasions.  Agents recovered three bags of meth with a total weight of 23.4 grams and a glass pipe from Kahlow’s pockets.

Harley Davidson rider hits dog in Waverly

crashWAVERLY, MN – A Howard Lake man is in critical condition at Hennepin County Medical Center after a motorcycle crash along Highway 12 in Waverly today, according to the State Patrol.

Danny A. Freund, 44, of Howard Lake was airlifted from the scene after he apparently hit a dog that ran out onto Highway 12 while he was travelling eastbound on Highway 12. He was driving a 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle. UPDATE: the State Patrol has corrected its official accident report to say that Freund was not wearing a helmet.

McDonald endorsed by Republicans for Emmer’s seat

McDonald_1ROCKFORD, MN — Joe McDonald, the mayor of Delano, has been endorsed tonight by the Republicans in District 19B, which is the seat soon-to-be-vacated by Tom Emmer, who is running for governor.

Five candidates took part in the process:  Tracy Vetruba of Howard Lake,  McDonald, Ken Felger of Buffalo, Alan Johnson of Waverly, and Jon Papas of St. Michael.
