Delano City Council to meet tonight

DELANO, MN – In what looks to be light agendas, the Delano City Council will conduct two meetings tonight (Tuesday). The first will be a work session at 6 p.m., with agenda items including discussion on the city’s phone plans, discussion of the acquisition of property for floodplain purposes, and reviewing upcoming meetings and work plan. The regular meeting at 7 p.m. has a number of consent items, including consideration of a gambling permit request from the Delano Sportsmen’s Club, a resolution for on-sale liquor at the Cabaret event at the Delano Senior Center, and the replacement of a computer station. An additional agenda item includes consideration of a resolution for the City of Delano’s public safety policy/procedure. Booth space available for chamber expo in Delano

DELANO, MN – The 23rd annual Delano Area Chamber of Commerce spring expo will be Saturday, March 31 at Delano High School’s Tiger Activity Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Booth space is now available, and one can register by calling the chamber office at (763) 972-6756, or at www.delanochamber.com and downloading a registration form. Plane makes emergency landing in neighboring Carver County

CARVER COUNTY, MN – Carver County Sheriff Jim Olson announced that at 2:49 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, the Carver County Sheriff’s Office and the Hamburg Fire Department responded to a report of an emergency plan landing in a plowed farm field near the address of 13635 County Road 31 in Hamburg/Young America Township.

According to Olson, the pilot and only occupant of the plane was a 42 year old woman from Minneapolis. The pilot made an emergency landing in a plowed field after losing power to the aircraft’s instrument panel. The pilot safely landed the aircraft without damage to the aircraft or injury to the pilot.

The aircraft was inspected by a representative from the FAA, and released to the owner.

See ‘Winnie the Pooh’ this weekend in Delano

DELANO, MN – Delano Community Education is hosting a presentation of Disney’s “Winnie the Pooh,” by students in third through sixth grade at the Delano Middle School Auditorium. The presentations will take place Thursday, Feb. 23 and Friday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m., and Saturday, Feb. 25 at 1 and 7 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door. Come to the 100-acre wood and see Winnie the Pooh (Sophia Pappas and Owen Dailey) go on an adventure to save their friend, Christopher Robin (Kellen Knop and Jackson Groskruetz), from the evil Backson, who “slips into your parties and pops the red balloons.”

UPDATE: Funeral notice for Hayden B. Solien, 7, Montrose

Hayden Solien

Age 7, of Montrose died accidentally, Friday, Feb. 10. Visitation will be Wednesday, 9:30 – 11 a.m. at the church. Mass of Christian Burial for Hayden Solien will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Church of St. Francis Xavier in Buffalo. The Peterson Chapel of Buffalo assisted the family with arrangements.

UPDATED: Minnesota State Patrol investigating double fatality accident in Montrose

MONTROSE, MN – The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating a double fatality vehicle/pedestrian accident that took place in Montrose Friday at approximately 8:07 a.m., just west of the Highway 12/Highway 25 intersection in town. Assisting the state patrol at the scene included the Montrose Fire Department, Delano Fire Department, Wright County Sheriff’s Office, and Ridgeview Ambulance. Identities of persons involved have not yet been released by the state patrol. Watch this website and Monday’s Delano Herald Journal for more details when available.

UPDATE: Lt. Eric Roeske of the Minnesota State Patrol has released information via Twitter that a driver went off the road and struck a child who was waiting for the school bus. The vehicle rolled and the driver was also killed. Roeske was responding to the scene and will release more information upon his arrival.
