Fatal plane crash in northern Wright County kills two

The Wright County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a plane crash Aug. 22 at 12:40 p.m. in the 13500 block of Wright County Road 7 NW in Clearwater Township. Initial investigation indicates that the plane, a 1988 Christen Eagle II Bi-Plane, was being piloted by Brett Johnson, 32, of Becker. Witnesses on the ground reported that the plane was performing aerial acrobatics when it lost power and crashed into the ground. Both the pilot and a passenger, Jeffrey Colbenson, 34, of Maple Lake, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The Clearwater Fire Department assisted the Wright County Sheriff’s Office at the scene. The incident remains under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration, Wright County Coroner’s Office and the Wright County Sheriff’s Office.

Delano girl sings national anthem at Twins game

twins.gsDELANO, MN – Alyssa Trautman, an incoming 5th grader at Delano Middle School, was chosen to sing the National Anthem at the Aug. 13 Twins game.

Alyssa is the daughter of Brent and Nancy Trautman of Delano.

ACT results are in for Delano High School

DELANO, MN – The newest round of ACT test results show that students at Delano High School are ‘aces’ when it comes to college entrance exams.

End of filing period shows who will be on the ballot this fall locally

The filing period for local offices (city and school board) closed Tuesday evening, with a number of candidates filing for all open positions.

Delano
In Delano, three people have filed for the mayor position: Larry Bartels, Dale Graunke, and Harlan Lewis. Incumbent Joe McDonald did not file and is running a campaign for state representative.
For city council, Dan Gustafson, Jon Sutherland, Derek Schansberg, Jacqui Blasiak, Dan Vick, Marc Plese, and Jason Thompson have all filed. Incumbent Brad Hotchkiss did not file. The other council incumbent, Bartels, has filed for mayor.

Delano Public Schools
For Delano School Board, Timothy Douglas, Patricia Osmon, and Lisa Seguin have filed for the three, four-year seats available on the school board. Carolyn Milano and Erika Kluge Frake filed for the two, two-year positions available on the board. Incumbent Joy Bodin did not file.

Montrose
In Montrose, Charlie Nelson, Jon Varner, Sharon Knodel (incumbent), Ryan Andreae (incumbent), Roy Henry, Scott F. Czanstkowski “Ski,” and Lloyd Johnson have filed for the two, four-year seats available on the Montrose City Council.

Loretto
In Loretto, a number of people have stepped forward to vie for positions on the city council. Kent Koch has filed to be Loretto’s next mayor. Incumbent Barry Andersen did not file.
For city council, Brenda Daniels (incumbent), Tom Pedersen, John Nelson “Archie,” and Keith Converse filed for the two, four-year terms. Incumbent Jeff France did not file.

Youth As Resources street dance Saturday, Aug. 28

Youth As Resources (YAR) will be hosting a teen street dance Saturday, Aug. 28 from 8 to 11 p.m. in the parking lot of Linnie’s Ice Cream on Bridge Avenue in downtown Delano. Admission is $5 and entertainment will be provided by DJ Fitzer. Prizes will also be given out.

Concerts in Park series continues

The General Federated Women’s Club’s Concerts in the Park series continues this week with a performance Wednesday, Aug. 18 by Mariachi Flor y Canto. The free concert will be at the Central Park gazebo at 7 p.m.
