Photos sought for exhibit at Delano Library in March

The Friends of the Delano Public Library will host its 12th annual
photography exhibit open house Tuesday, March 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. at
the Delano Public Library, located at 160 Railroad Avenue. Photos will
be displayed during the month of March.
Everyone is encouraged to come and view photos and meet photographers.
Refreshments will be served.
Speakers
Susan Stone, photographer, and Debi Pool, animal handler and owner of
the Animal Talent Pool, will talk about photographing animals and
people from 6:30 to 7 p.m. and answer questions following the
presentation.
Susan Stone opened her portrait business in 1993, specializing in
black-and-white and tinted portraits of pets and children. Today, her
creative energy is directed towards her art photography and card line
that features her art and animal photography.
She will share some of her secrets of getting great photographs of
animals and people, and demonstrate with Debi Pool what a photo
session is like with animals involved.
Debi Pool is Stone’s sister and they often work together, as you will
see during their presentation at the library.
Pool has found talented animals for print ads, TV commercials, and
special events.
Pool will talk about how she finds the right animal that is able to
perform for a photo shoot or commercial. Stone will talk about taking
the photos at exactly the best time.
They will have animals at the library to demonstrate how this is done,
so be sure to bring children to this event.
Pool is always looking for more pets to add to the pool. Come to the
presentation and ask her if a pet is ready for the floodlights.

The photography exhibit is a community showing of photos by both
amateurs and professionals. Participants may submit two photos for

Curves offers incentives to donate to Curves Food Drive, March 1-31

Curves of Delano is encouraging women in the area to show their
philanthropic strength by participating in the annual Curves Food
Drive.
Even though donating food to families in need is its own reward, the
club is offering compelling incentives for both existing and potential
members who participate.
From Monday, March 1 to Wednesday, March 31, Curves of Delano will
collect non-perishable items and monetary donations for food banks in
the local area.
The goal, according to Cyndi Orr of Curves of Delano, is for the
community to come together to help families in need.
“At the core of our business is the message that women are stronger
when they rally together, and that is the point we hope to bring home
with our food drive,” explained Orr. “We want to show our community
just how powerful the generosity of our members can be.”
According to Orr, members who donate a bag of groceries or make a
minimum donation of $30 during the month of March will receive a
reusable Curves grocery freezer bag for free.
Non-members who do likewise between Monday, March 8 and Saturday,
March 20 can join Curves for free. Curves will waive the cost to join.
Orr said that as part of this effort, Curves of Delano will be
participating in a company-wide contest for the most food drive
donations collected by Curves locations across the nation.
Winners will receive one of several cash prizes to be donated to their
local food bank.
Each year, Curves locations collectively donate millions of pounds of
food to feed the hungry.
“We hope women in the Delano area will come together and participate
in this initiative,” added Orr. “Even if you’re not thinking about
joining a gym, you can still drop off your donations. There are so
many families – right here in our own community – who need our help.”

Avenue West, and the Curves Food Drive, contact Cyndi Orr at (763)
