The General Federated Women’s Club (GFWC) of Delano is planning its annual Snowflake Luncheon for Saturday, Feb. 6 at the Delano Legion, located at the corner of US Highway 12 and Bridge Avenue in Delano.
Social time is set for 11:30 a.m., with the luncheon to follow at noon. The event will feature entertainment and prize giveaways.
The GFWC encourages first-timers and returning guests to come to the luncheon. “It is a fun and entertaining event that we all look forward to,” said Alice Fink, committee member.
Entertainment will be presented by Rena Haus Trio.Minneapolis singer/songwriter Rena Haus rolls folk music, blues, and jazz into unforgettable performances that are somehow always intimate, no matter the venue.
Her trio consists of Ed Pesche on electric guitar and her brother, Bob Haus, on the fretless bass.

GFWC uses all proceeds for the betterment of the community.

The Delano Calico Quilters and the Friends of the Delano Public Library are seeking quilters who would like to display their creations in a quilt exhibit they are sponsoring during the month of February at the Delano Public Library.
Those interested in displaying their creations are encouraged to bring up to two items to the library before Saturday, Jan. 30. Participants should fill out a form at the checkout desk for each item.
The exhibit will begin Tuesday, Feb. 2 with an open house. Demonstrations by members of the Calico Quilters will take place from 6 to 8 p.m., and coffee and cookies will be served.
Everyone is encouraged to come to the library and enjoy the beautiful quilts made by people in the community.
The City of Independence is accepting applications from residents interested in serving on the city’s parks commission or planning commission. Applications must be submitted by noon Wednesday, Feb. 17.
• The planning commission conducts public hearings and makes recommendations to the city council concerning land use issues including zoning, ordinance amendments, subdivisions, and variances.
The planning commission meets the second Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m.
There is one position available for a three-year term, beginning March 2010.
• The parks commission makes recommendations to the city council concerning current and future needs in the areas of parks, trails, recreational facilities, and activities.
The parks commission is also active in planning and promoting the annual fall Heritage Fest at Pioneer Creek Park the second Saturday of September.
The parks commission meets the first Thursday of each month at 7 p.m.
There are four positions available, beginning March 2010.

The applications will be reviewed at the city council meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23.
The Delano Area Chamber of Commerce Task Force Power Lunch will take place Wednesday, Jan. 27 at Dave’s Town Club. Power lunches are a group of people all supporting a local business at one time. Buffet and a drink will cost $8. Call Dave’s Town Club to RSVP at (763) 972-6815.
