Library winter reading program begins Jan. 4 in Delano

“A Reading Wonderland,” the Winter Reading Program at Great River Regional Library (GRRL) begins Monday, Jan. 4, 2010.

The program provides fun incentives for readers to settle into cozy winter reading habits. It is designed primarily for teens and adults and is open to anyone in the 6th grade or older. Each of the 32 branch libraries in the GRRL system will have prize drawings for participants. All booklovers need do is register for the program at a branch and pick up a drawing slip. A slip can be turned in for every five books read (audiobooks count, too). Branches will have drawings for special Reading Wonderland mugs, winter gift baskets, and regional grand prizes including gift cards and gas cards. The program runs through Feb. 27.

The library’s first Winter Reading Program took place in 2004, and participation has increased steadily. Many of the region’s libraries now schedule special events to support the program and encourage winter reading. Visit the GRRL events page at www.griver.org for more information.
