Nominations sought for business of year

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2010 Delano Area Chamber of
Commerce Business of the Year.
This award will spotlight a successful Delano business, which has met
the following criteria:
• Preferably a chamber member; in business for at least one year;
provides consistent service and/or products to its customers and
community; promotes Delano’s community events and encourages employees
to be involved; promotes other Delano businesses by showing support
and referring customers, etc.; has not received this award in the last
five years.
The chamber ambassadors will review all nominations at their Tuesday,
Jan. 26 meeting.  The deadline to nominate a business is Friday,
Jan. 15. The nomination form and list of past winners can be found
online at www.delanochamber.com.

Delano Chamber task force meeting Tuesday

The Delano Area Chamber of Commerce Task Force will meet Tuesday, Jan. 5 at 9 a.m. at Star West Chevrolet-Honda Sports.

DAEF gala set for Saturday, Feb. 6

“Treasures of the Caribbean” is the theme for the Delano Area
Education Foundation (DAEF) gala planned for Saturday, Feb. 6 at 6
p.m. at the Rockford Township Hall, located at 3039 Dague Avenue
Southeast in Buffalo.
The evening will include silent and live auctions, a dinner, and dance.
All proceeds will support Delano Public Schools.
Tickets are $40 ($45 after Friday, Jan. 22), and are available at
State Bank of Delano, Absolute Automotive, Delano Community Education
offices, Delano public school offices, or www.delano.k12.mn.us.

Delano Tiger Boosters host meat raffles

The Delano Tiger Athletic Booster Club will raise funds via meat raffles most Thursdays and Fridays through March, at Dave’s Town Club and Doc Holiday’s.
The meat raffles will support 22 Delano High School teams and organizations, and give entrants the chance to win meats from Rieder’s Meat Market in Delano.

January is Radon action month - make your home safe and healthy for the new year

You can’t see it.  You can’t smell it.  But thousands of Minnesota homes have potentially harmful levels of radon gas, which is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States.  Radon is a radioactive gas–that means it continuously decays and releases radiation.  It is produced from minerals in soil, such as uranium and radium.  This type of radiation causes damage when it gets into a persons body.  The result of such damage is that radon causes cancer in humans. Delano Library offers activities the first part of January

The Delano Public Library is offering the following programs in the first weeks of January:

Minnesota Zoomobile – Jan 6
The Minnesota Zoomobile will be visiting the Delano Public Library on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. All ages are invited to attend and enjoy a presentation by expert naturalists from the Minnesota Zoo who will introduce animals and explain their habits and habitats. This presentation is funded in part or in whole with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on Nov. 4, 2008, which dedicated funding to preserve Minnesota’s arts and cultural heritage.

Winter Morning Stories – Jan. 12
The Delano Public Library is offering a series of preschool storytimes for children ages 3-5 called Winter Morning Stories. They will take place on Tuesdays, 10:30 – 11:00 a.m., beginning January 12 and continuing through February 16. Former preschool teacher Joan Zimmerman will present the program. The attendance limit is 25 and preregistration is required.

Lunch With a Master Gardener – Jan. 12
The Delano Public Library is offering a “ Lunch With a Master Gardener” series on Tuesdays, 12 noon – 1:00 p.m., beginning Jan. 12 and continuing the second Tuesday of the month. Adults who are garden lovers are invited to bring a sack lunch and join Debbie Debeer, Wright County Master Gardener, for a question/answer session about gardening. The group will share and exchange ideas on a variety of gardening topics. The attendance limit is 15.

Knitting 102 – Jan. 16
The Delano Public Library is offering “Knitting 102,” a class for knitters with a little experience, on Saturdays, Jan. 16 and 23, 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Knitting 102 is open to teens and adults. The class will work on improving skills and learning some new ones. Participants may do a project or bring their own knitting for help. The attendance limit is 10. Preregistration is required.
