DI-scover the fun and excitement of DI
An open house for Delano Destination ImagiNation (DI) is set for Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. at the middle school library.
DI is a worldwide creative problem solving team competition geared toward helping youth develop a variety of life-skills while getting hands-on experiences in physics, technology, mechanics, engineering, theater, team dynamics, strategic thinking, project and time management, goal setting, and more.
Students who participate in DI not only gain knowledge and skills in those areas, but they also build life-long friendships and are mentored by dedicated team managers who nurture their abilities and talents.
Teams are challenged to solve a pre-determined problem, by collectively applying their individual talents, skills, abilities, and ideas to present the most creative and unique solution possible.
DI is one of the world’s largest creativity and problem solving programs for youth of all ages, with thousands of participants in 50 states, 15 countries, and Canadian provinces participating annually.
The cost to participate in DI for elementary school aged students (second through fourth grades) is a $75 activity fee; the cost for middle/high school students (fifth through 12th grades) is a $125 activity fee.
Fees include team materials, costumes, set-building, art supplies, instant-challenge supplies, regional and state competition registration.
For more information on DI, visit www.delano.12.mn.us, click “Activities,” then click “extracurricular” then Destination ImagiNation.
The Red Cross bloodmobile will be at Mt. Olive Lutheran School, 435 Bridge Avenue East in Delano, Tuesday, Sept. 22 from 1 to 7 p.m.
It’s easy and convenient to donate blood – it only takes about an hour.
Donors will be helping to ensure that blood is there when needed. Most people don’t think they’ll ever need blood, but many do. Donating blood may give a newborn, a child, a mother or a father, a brother, or a sister another chance at life. In fact, donors may help save up to three lives with just one donation.
Changes for prospective donors:
• Sixteen-year-olds may now donate blood. Parents must sign a consent form, prior to the 16-year-old donating. The signed form must be brought to the blood drive the day of the event. Call (763) 972-2838 or (763) 972-6270 to receive the form and other important information about donating blood.
• Donors who have had cancer may be eligible to donate again. The guidelines state that at least one year must have passed since the donor’s last cancer treatment. Donors must be reinstated before they will be eligible to participate in the Sept. 22 blood drive.
Consider giving the gift of life. Donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment by calling Angie at (763) 972-2838 or Mary at (763) 972-6270.
