Willing Workers 4-H Club anniversary Sunday

Willing Workers 4-H Club will celebrate 80 years with a party Sunday, July 26 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the Mark Otto residence, 3744 57th St SW, Delano. Meeting will begin at 1 p.m., followed by a tour at 2 p.m., Share-The-Fun skit at 3 p.m. and social hour at 3:15 p.m. with cake and beverages.

Plan now for National Night Out Tuesday, Aug. 4

National Night Out was designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, to generate support for and participation in local anti-crime programs, to strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and to send a message to criminals to let them know that neighborhoods are organized are fighting back.

Resource Fair set for September

WRIGHT COUNTY, MN – The City of Independence  and the Wright Hennepin Clean Water Resource Association will be hosting a Resource Fair Thursday, Sept. 17, where all of the available lakeshore resources will be featured in one place. Although the main theme is “clean water” all products connected to water are available.

More details released on Independence fatal

INDEPENDENCE, MN – Authorities released more information about the fatal accident yesterday that involved several motorcycles on Hennepin County Road 6 and County Road 90.

“An eastbound motorcycle driven by Gary Arens, 51 from Watertown pulled out into the westbound lane of traffic to pass a pickup truck and struck a westbound motorcycle driven by Michael Brown, 65, from Long Lake,” reported director Ray McCoy of West Hennepin Public Safety. The motorcycles collided head-on in the westbound lane of County Road 6, killing both drivers. Brown was thrown onto the shoulder of the eastbound lane and was struck by another vehicle.

Previous to the crash, Arens was witnessed to be driving aggressively, pulling out and passing several eastbound vehicles, McCoy said. Brown was traveling with a group of five motorcyclists who were headed out of state for their annual motorcycle trip. Brown was the lead rider, McCoy said.

The crash took place around 6:38 a.m. Maple Plain Fire Rescue and North Memorial Ambulance Care unit responded to the scene. WHPS was assisted by Orono, Medina, Mound, Minnetrista Police Departments, and Hennepin County Crime Lab at the scene of the crash. County Road 90 was closed down and traffic diverted for approximately 3 hours.

WHPS is investigating the accident with the aid of MN State Patrol Accident Reconstruction Unit.

Amber Alert is fake in Cokato

WRIGHT COUNTY, MN – The Wright County Sheriff’s Office has issued a statement that identifies an Amber Alert as being fake.  The message is being text-messaged to Cokato residents, regarding an alleged abduction of a 3 year old that supposedly occurred in the City of Cokato. “There is no validity to this alert,” according to the sheriff’s office. “There has been no abduction, or attempted abduction in the city of Cokato that has been reported.”

Montrose, Waverly have rash of car break-ins

MONTROSE, WAVERLY, MN – There have been a rash of car break-ins in Montrose and Waverly recently, Wright County Sheriff Department Patrol Officer Kevin Triplett told the Waverly City Council at the meeting Tuesday.
