New Germany auctioneer to conduct Denny Hecker auction

radNEW GERMANY, MN – Fred Radde of New Germany will be conducting an auction at the end of this month to sell watercraft and snowmobiles as part of the Denny Hecker estate, Radde confirmed today (July 28).

The auction, set for 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, will feature two 26 foot pontoons, nine snowmobiles, golf clubs and equipment, two Vespa scooters, and a large variety of other similar items. This is only part of what Hecker owns, Radde noted. The reason that seasonal items such as water toys and snowmobiles are being sold now is because the season is right for sale, he said. Other items will continue to be sold, he added.

Radde took the high-profile auction in stride, saying “It’s just another auction.” He treats everyone the same, he said. However, Radde has been contacted by four broadcast stations this morning, and his phone has been ringing off the hook.

panHOWARD LAKE, MN – What do you get when you have two or more combines
dueling it out in a dirt-filled pen? The third annual Wright County Fair Combine Derby, set for Wednesday, Aug. 12 at 7 p.m. with a first place prize of $1,000.
Event chair Stan Vanderkooi saw his first combine demolition derby at the Minnesota State Fair in the 1980s.

Vanderkooi thought it would be fun to do a local event. “It’s an enjoyable thing to watch,” Vanderkooi said. “It’s somewhat fast-paced, but not so much that you can’t follow what’s going on,” he added.

Since the arrival of the combine derby in 2007, the event has been drawing quite a crowd, with the stands being packed the first year.  Though it’s still too early to determine how many combines will participate this year, Vanderkooi expects there to be similar numbers as in the past. Typically, there have been between 12 to 15 combines in the derby. Continue reading ‘Gearing up for the combine derby in Wright Co. (video, too)’
