Auditions for middle school play Monday

AUDITIONS FOR A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD will be held Monday, Feb. 2 from 3-4 in the middle school auditorium. Auditions are open to students in grades 3, 4, 5 and 6. If you are interested, please pick up an audition sheet from the office, fill it out, and bring to auditions. Contact Mrs. Roy (X3038) with any questions. The play is a musical retelling of some of the favorite stories by Arnold Lobel and was a hit on Broadway a few years ago.

Public forum at Light of Christ Lutheran Church Sunday

“The History You Were Never Taught and Why”, a public forum designed to help dismantle racism, is being presented by the Peace and Justice Ministry at Delano’s Light of Christ Lutheran Church. Shavonne Johnson from the College of St. Catherine will explore some of the fundamental beliefs we hold that separate us rather than unite us. Please come to be a part of the process of remaking the world for a more peaceful future. This event is free and the public is invited on January 18, 2009 at 3p.m., Light of Christ Lutheran Church, 3976 County Line Rd. SE, Delano.

Filing period for township elections closes Tuesday

Filing period for township elections closes Tuesday
One of three supervisor seats will be up for election this spring for Franklin Township.
The seat presently held by John Czanstkowski Sr. is up for election this year. The township election will take place Tuesday, March 10, 2009.
Those wishing to file for the three-year seat may do so with Franklin Township Clerk/Treasurer Denise Olson.
Affidavits of candidacy may be filed with Olson at her home office, located at 545 Elm Avenue in Delano through Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009 until 5 p.m. The filing fee is $2.

Nominations sought for business of the year
Nominations are being accepted for the 2009 Delano Area Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year.
This award will spotlight a successful Delano business, which has met the following criteria:
• Preferably a chamber member; in business for at least one year; provides consistent service and/or products to its customers and community; promotes Delano’s community events and encourages employees to be involved; promotes other Delano businesses by showing support and referring customers, etc.; has not received this award in the last five years.
The elected business will be:
• presented a plaque at the annual chamber banquet or recognition meeting.
• featured in the local newspaper and monthly chamber newsletter.
• displayed on the Hwy 12 Chamber sign two times (or an alternative display).
• honored with treats delivered to their business.
• given a chance to ride in the Fourth of July parade as “Business of the Year.”
• the sole showcased business at the general Chamber meeting.
• given two free lunches at the meeting.
• highlighted on www.delanochamber.com two times.

The chamber ambassadors will review all nominations at its Tuesday, Jan. 27 meeting. Submit the form online by Friday, Jan. 16. All nominations will be confidential. Remember, you are nominating a business, not a person.

Al-Anon Family Group observes its 30th year in Delano

Al-Anon Family Group observes its 30th year in Delano
Al-Anon Family Group of Delano will celebrate 30 years of service to the community of Delano and the surrounding area. The group has provided help for family and friends of alcoholics since 1979. The group offers experience, strength, and hope to families of problem drinkers.
The Al-Anon group will celebrate this special anniversary Monday, Jan. 19 with a pot luck supper and guest speaker, Vicky A. of Anoka.
The public is invited to the dinner at 6:30 p.m. at the Light of Christ Lutheran Church hall in Delano; the speaker follows at 7:30 p.m.
Light of Christ Lutheran is located at 3976 County Line Road in Delano. Al-Anon Family Group offers this open meeting with recovery speaker Vicky A. to let the community hear how Al-Anon has helped her recover from the affects of alcoholism in the family.

Quilts sought for exhibit

Quilts sought for exhibit
The Delano Public Library will be the location of a quilt exhibit from Monday, Feb. 2 through Thursday, Feb. 19.
Quilters who would like to display one of their quilts are welcome to bring it to the Delano Library before the deadline of Friday, Jan. 30th. Participants will be asked to fill out a short form at the desk.
The quilt exhibit will last for three weeks, and should brighten up the library and add a warm cozy feeling during the cold month of February.
Everyone is encouraged to stop by and admire the many quilts on display.
The exhibit is sponsored by the Calico Quilters, a Delano quilting group.
