Early deadlines

Early deadlines
Due to the holiday press schedule, early newspaper copy is needed for the last two weeks of December. Copy for the Monday, Dec. 22 edition, and the Monday, Dec. 29 edition, is due by noon Wednesday, Dec. 17 and Wednesday, Dec. 24, respectively.
In addition, holiday hours will apply, with the Delano Herald Journal office being closed at noon Christmas Eve. The office will also be closed Friday, Dec. 26.

Breakfast with Santa Saturday
The tenth annual holiday ham breakfast with Santa will take place Sunday, December 14 at St. Peter’s Church dining hall, Delano from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The event is sponsored by the Delano Knights of Columbus and the Delano Catholic Community Youth.
Organizers will also be collecting children and teen coats and children’s books for charity. The recipients of these items will be the youth at Mary’s Place in Minneapolis, a ministry of Sharing and Caring Hands. These items may be dropped off at the breakfast.

Jaycee toy drive runs through Thursday, Dec. 11
The Delano Jaycees, with assistance from Love in the Name of Christ (INC), will be hosting its annual Toy Drive this year.
Unwrapped toy donations may be dropped off through Thursday, Dec. 11.
Delano-based Love, Inc. will distribute the toys to local families in need Saturday, Dec. 13 at the Delano Assembly of God.
The following locations will be accepting donations: Crow River State Bank, True Valu Hardware, State Bank of Delano, Randy’s Sanitation, Delano Floral, Meyer Chiropractic, Coborn’s, Linda’s Photography, CVS Pharmacy, Delano Herald Journal, and the City of Delano.

Bake sale and cheesecake social Thursday, Dec. 11
The Delano Senior Center’s bake sale and cheesecake social will take place at the center Thursday, Dec. 11 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Goodies will be available for holiday guests. Shop for baked goods and stay for coffee and a piece of cheesecake. The cost is $3.
Entertainment will be provided at 11 a.m. by Ralph Gnitka.

Breakfast with Santa is Saturday
The Delano American Legion family will be sponsoring a “Breakfast with Santa” Saturday, Dec. 6 at the Delano American Legion.
A breakfast of french toast sticks, sausage, juice, milk, and coffee will be served, beginning at 8:30 a.m. The breakfast is free and open to all family members.
Santa Claus will be present from 9 to 11 a.m. to visit with everyone and give each child a small goodie bag. Pictures will also be taken of Santa with the children for a small fee. For more information, call Pam Hoshal at (763) 972-2269.

Lutefisk and meatball julbord Saturday afternoon
The lutefisk and meatball julbord at Lyndale Lutheran Church will take place Saturday, Dec. 6 from 2 to 6 p.m.
The menu includes lutefisk, meatballs, lefse, red cabbage, rutabaga, boiled potatoes, herring, and more. Entertainment will be provided by Gilmer Lee and the Minnesota Fiddlers.
Reservations are required and may be made by calling (763) 479-1719. The cost is $15 for adults, $5 for children, and free for those under three years old.
Lyndale Lutheran Church is located on Hennepin Co. Rd. 6 in Maple Plain at the intersection of Co. Rd. 92.
