Golden LivingCenter rated five-star

DELANO, MN - Golden LivingCenter in Delano recently earned five stars in its overall rating for April from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), for the outstanding overall care it provides to patients and residents.
GLC is one of a select group of skilled nursing facilities in Minnesota to receive the coveted 5-Star Overall rating, which is the highest designation possible under the CMS Five-Star Quality Rating System.
Company-wide, Golden LivingCenter has 71 5-Star Overall-rated skilled nursing facilities – more than any other provider in the industry.
GLC’s average Overall 5-Star rating for all of its centers in April was 3.34, compared to the industry average of 3.24.
Golden Living’s Quality 5-Star rating for April was 4.05, also the highest in the industry.
To receive the 5-Star designation, nursing homes are rated on their health inspections, quality measures, and staffing, with only the top 10 percent of nursing homes being eligible for the 5-Star rating.
“Our LivingCenter is honored to receive the 5-Star Overall rating, because it validates the quality care and outstanding service we strive to provide to our patients,” explained Alex Colborn, executive director of Golden LivingCenter in Delano. “It’s the result of a lot of hard work and dedication on the part of our employees, who are committed to working every day to continuously improve our quality of care and patient experience.”
The CMS 5-Star Rating System is part of Nursing Home Compare, an online tool that CMS offers to help consumers more easily compare nursing homes in their area.
Under the system, 5-Star equals “much above average,” 4-Star equals “above average,” 3-Star equals “average,” 2-Star equals “below average,” and 1-Star equals “much below average.”
Another purpose of the program is to provide nursing homes with the data they need to help with their quality improvement efforts. With data in Nursing Home Compare being updated monthly, nursing homes have the ability to move up or down in the ratings, based on how their care evolves over time.
Golden LivingCenter in Delano provides quality healthcare for up to 54 patients and residents, including those needing skilled nursing and rehabilitative care.
The center has been a part of the Delano community since 1967.

Wright County may contact citizens via cell phone

Everyone looks for way to cut costs, and some people do this by cutting the cord – the phone cord. It is estimated that 25 to 30 percent of households only have a cell phone.
There are many reasons for keeping or getting rid of a landline.  Cost-wise, ditching the landline might be a money-saver. On the other hand, cell phone lines can quickly become jammed during emergencies.
Those who are the one in four with only a cell phone, but want to be contacted by Wright County during an emergency situation, can now sign up on the Wright County website at www.co.wright.mn.us.
There is a link on the Wright County homepage to “Sign up to Receive Emergency Notifications.” Participants will be brought to the “Wright County Citizen SignUp” page where they register their address, and create their own private password.
The Wright County CityWatch notification system is used by the county to notify citizens of impending emergency situations, or to relay important information. Right now, the CityWatch system relies on landline phones, but by registering a cell phone, participants can be part of the system to be notified of emergencies or important events.
