Wee Tiger Preschool Is Offered Through Community Education: Wee Tiger Preschool classes for children 33 months up to kindergarten enrollment are offered through Delano Community Education.
The program is offered to all families living in District 879. Classes are conducted throughout the school year at the Community Education Center. Wee Tiger Preschool is a Four Star Parent Aware rated early childhood program.
The Wee Tiger Preschool uses the Creative Curriculum classroom model; The Houghton-Mifflin pre-k reading and math curriculum provide the core academic curriculum which prepares students to transition to kindergarten at the Delano Elementary School. The daily schedule includes time for pre-reading, pre-math, expressive arts, dramatic play, large and small motor skills, music, literature, large group instruction, gym or outdoor play, sharing and a snack. Teachers utilize the GOLD Assessment/Work Sampling method of providing feedback on students’ progress to parents at the fall and spring conference.
Wee Tiger Preschool’s goal is to foster each child’s self-image, confidence, and positive attitude toward learning and school while preparing for the academic structure of kindergarten. All classes are taught by a State of Minnesota licensed teacher. Students have the option of expanding their day by attending the lunch bunch/Extended Day and Preschool Ed-Venture Club activities during the afternoon for a fun and educational school day.

Tiger Kids Club (Grades k-4) and Tiger Cubs (ages 3 - 5) Working parents love the high quality, affordable childcare offered by Tiger Kids Club (TKC), which is open from 6:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. throughout the year, including summer and a number of non-school days during the school year. TKC serves children from kindergarten through grade 4.
Tiger Kids Club offers homework help, supervised small- and large-group games, field trips, enrichment programs and easy access to community education offerings. TKC also provides a breakfast and snacks.
The Tiger Cubs program, a unique child care and pre-school program, provides a full-day, pre-kindergarten experience for children ages 3 and 4. Through a variety of experiences, young learners will be exposed to pre-math, pre-reading, writing skills, language activities, science and art exploration, large- and fine-motor activities, as well as all the other benefits TKC provides. Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE): Early Childhood Family Education offers parent-child classes and family activities for parents and their young children from birth to kindergarten enrollment which foster the growth and development of children, enrich family life, and provide information and support for parents.
Early Childhood Family Education recognizes that families provide children their first and most important learning environment, and that parents are children’s first and most significant teachers.
The mission of ECFE is to strengthen families through the education and support of all parents in providing the best possible environment for the healthy growth and development of their children. Do you have a child between the ages of 3 and 5 (not yet in kindergarten)? If so, has your child participated in Early Childhood Health and Developmental Screening? ECHDS allows for a quick check on a child’s overall development prior to entering school. Parents should receive a letter from the school district inviting them to schedule an appointment for their child to participate in ECHDS when the child is 3 1/2 to 4 years of age.
