Fourth Of July With A Bang
The red, white, and blue seems to fly just a little bit brighter in Delano around the Fourth of July, when this small town becomes a big attraction to thousands of people from across the state.
Delano’s Fourth of July celebration is the oldest and largest Independence Day celebration in Minnesota.
The celebration lasts at least four days, and includes more than enough entertainment to satisfy every member of the family.
The fun begins days before the fourth, as area softball and baseball teams begin to duke it out in the annual tournament. Fans can cheer on their favorite teams as they sip on cold refreshments.
New in 2008 will be porkchops prepared by the Wright County Pork Producers, corn-on-the-cob direct from the Minnesota State Fair, the ever-popular milkshake booth, plus the longtime favorite hamburger stand.
Next is the arrival of the carnival to the park. Featuring rides, games, and plenty of all-American snacks, including cheese curds and minidonuts, everyone is guaranteed to have fun during the carnival.
Many residents can be found at one of the many backyard cook-outs, talking to old friends, and taking in the atmosphere of the Fourth of July.
The Fourth of July features a 5-k run, and a parade in the morning containing floats from local and area participants out to show off their patriotism.
Then people head to the park to take in one of the live bands and save a spot for the evening’s main event, one of the most stunning fireworks displays around. Bands confirmed to perform at the celebration in 2008 include The Killer Hayseeds, Butch Automatic/Retro Allstars, Jonah and the Whales, and UK5.
So come and celebrate the Spirit of Community and the Fourth of July with Delano!
